Time to start a post on good places in Bamako to have a drink. First a bit of Bambara:
Dolo means beer and so means house. Thus a bar is doloso. We found up to know two main areas to get a Castel or a Flag (the 2 Malian beers), located one on each side of the river.
The well know Blabla street in the Hippodrome district has a dozen of places ranging from restaurants to bar to night club. Nice and laid back places:
- la terrasse
- bla bla (of course)
On the other side of the river, in Badalabougou, there is also few bars at the corner of the french restaurant/bakery "Amandine". (Advice; avoid Amandine it is really expensive...)
The price for a small beer varies from 500 to 1000 CFA and from 1500 to 2000 for a 75 cl bottle.

MNM Visit

Day off today for a visit to the "Musée National du Mali". For once we were able to see some very nice statues. Sorry no pics were allowed but the website gives an idea of the ancient art : MNM.
Outside the main building we saw a model of Djenné's mosque.

More on Point G and how to get out from it...
There is several ways to escape the MRTC (Malaria Research and Training Center) where we are working to go downtown:

1-the cheapest way is to climb in a old 504-break-peugeot car that can take up to 10 people. The local name for these cars is "requin" (shark in french) because of the wires that came out of the seats and the absence of floor... The alternate name given to the requins is "s'en fout la mort" (explicit enough considering the hill)... We haven't try yet this way of transportation and don't know if we will...
2- the other way is to wait for a more standard taxi or yellow-painted car that came eventually to the hospital at point G. A ride to Bamako is about 1500 CFA after a short bargaining or 2000 CFA in evenings or if we want to go on the other side of the river.
3- Walking down the hill. I believe there is a path to the hippodrome district, but we haven't tried it yet.

around Point G
Here are some pic around the MRTC where we will stay for the next 6 months. Point G is one of the two hills above Bamako (the other one is the president's residence).
